DEFINITION
HEPATITIS “B” Vaccine Series
Hepatitis “B” vaccine series refers to the series of three injections received for protection against hepatitis B. The three shots are usually given in the deltoid region. The second shot is given one month after the first and the third shot is given six months after the first. It is strongly recommended that a Hepatitis B surface antibody (HbsAb) be drawn after the completion of the series. Levels should be checked every three years or after an occupational exposure if not checked in the preceding 24 months. Booster shots are given HbsAb is less than 10.
