Return to Work
DEFINITION
These examinations are requested by companies when an employee has been off work due to injury or illness and is returning to work. Many times the employee's personal physician is unaware of the working conditions and may inadvertently release an employee to work who is not capable of safely and efficiently performing his/her job. These evaluations must be done by a physician knowledgeable about the working conditions so that the examination remains focused on work related issues so as to be in compliance with the ADA. This does require a job description with essential functions and physical requirements of the specific job.
