H1N1 Flu Info

To our employers:

We are in the midst of an outbreak of H1N1 (swine) flu. You may be asked by your employees what to do. We, at Cascade Occupational Medicine, recommend the following:

  1. Encourage respiratory and personal hygiene. Wash your hands frequently. Avoid touching your nose or mouth. If you have to sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with a Kleenex and dispose of the Kleenex immediately. Keep your work station clean especially if you share it with others. Again, use common sense in good hand washing and respiratory protection.
  2. If you do think you have the flu (symptoms are fever with cough, sore throat, body aches and in some cases nausea, vomiting and diarrhea),do not come to work. Self isolate for at least seven days or at least one day after all symptoms are gone. Call your physician and report your symptoms. If possible, do most of your communication with your doctor over the phone thereby not exposing others to the “flu”.
  3. If you have shortness of breath, difficulty breathing or believe you are seriously ill, seek medical attention at your local Emergency Room immediately.
  4. You may obtain more information about the flu at www.flu.oregon.gov or www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu

Thank you,

Cascade Occupational Medicine
